The relationship is serious, dedicated and long term.
Elder-Advisor helps until it can help no more.

Behavior
Behavior is built upon the basis of mutual respect.

Elder-Advisor wants to be a pleasure to have around. From the start Elder-Advisor seeks to become indispensable. Elder-Advisor does its best to adapt to the personality of the client and the family. Elder-Advisor seeks to foster an easy relationship by combining proper manners, wise intuition and respect for the privileges of the client’s world.

It is vital to understand what is appropriate for the personality of the elder, while also managing expectations and learning the boundaries of the household and family.

Flexibility

Elder-Advisor is not a 9-5 business. The clock is not ticking. There are many periods when attention means total dedication, staying through the stormy straits and taking whatever time is needed to get to the other side. Emotionally just the presence of a trusted individual quietly working in the next room or having a meal together can be comforting. The idea is be supportive but not intrusive. Conversely there are times when being alone can help an individual come to terms. Proper distance and breathing room can be very therapeutic when it concerns big decisions. Elder-Advisor is patient and understands the first decision may not always be the final decision. The 18 month period is designed specifically for a patient and flexible approach.

Decisions may come slowly. Fine, let’s explore the options together.

Elder-Advisor is here to be a safety net. We can explore the choices, options and solutions, and then make the next step happen together. When there is time and Elder-Advisor, difficult decisions can be easier to not only make, but to live with.

A great deal of the time, Elder-Advisor works discretely in your home. Though not required, there can be many benefits to this. And Elder-Advisor is happy to occasionally accompany clients on visits to loved ones, travel, taking meals together, shopping, whatever is reasonably required to elevate and maintain the dignity of life and happiness.

Elder-Advisor understands the importance of maintaining a certain standard of living. Special requests are invited, fulfilled and celebrated. Luxury is not considered an add-on. But in all regards, Elder-Advisor takes pride in seeking out and delivering the finest New York and the world has to offer. If something is not quite right, should I not notice it first, I want to know!

To elevate one’s spirit is always a joy. Good taste is to be cultivated. Life is short. Live well.

Client selection
Because Elder-Advisor holds itself to such high standards, client selection is critical. We choose only those who we feel are certain to benefit from our services. Elder-Advisor is designed to be a small and selective company serving those who will realize and appreciate the importance of our work. We do not want to be a superfluous component; the intention is to be core.

Fee Structure
Initial Lump Sum Fee
The nonrefundable up-front fee protects both Elder-Advisor and the Client.

The Client Elder-Advisor relationship is very important and will span years. It is not to be taken lightly. The initial fee ensures the Client and their Family will give Elder-Advisor serious consideration and careful evaluation before entering the relationship. Ours is not a casual relationship and should be discussed and weighed by as many family members as reasonable. Given the nature of the undertaking, it is inevitable there will be contentious moments in our journey together. Outside family members may disagree with the choices made by the Elder or other siblings. The initial fee serves to demonstrate a level of commitment.

The initial fee also protects Elder-Advisor from entering into a casual Client relationship. It helps to express the seriousness of an intimate and very private matter. Given the intensive research and analysis that occurs during the new client process, and in the unlikely event of the client dismissing Elder-Advisor, the monetary loss to the Firm is minimized.

Finally, the up-front fee demonstrates an ability to pay. Elder-Advisor is a small, highly effective, top level service entity. Though our services would be immensely helpful to many, the decision has been made to assist those we feel that can benefit most from our direct, high level and personal participation. To open the gate widely would likely dilute the effectiveness of our carefully planned process.

Tiered Monthly Subscription Fees
Typically eighteen months is the time it takes to complete the research, analysis and implementation of the Client process. After which the fee falls back to a lower monthly amount to cover Elder-Advisor’s monitoring of affairs.

Closing the Estate
Sadly one thing is certain: Elder-Advisor will eventually lose each of its Clients. Such is the nature of Life.

Heirs and executors may choose to engage Elder-Advisor’s expertise to help settle the Estate. We know the structure of all matters concerning the wishes of the Elder Client; have relationships with the Professionals necessary to proceed; and can facilitate the leg work involved. Again Elder-Advisor does not practice Law, is not a CPA nor an appraiser or auction house; but Elder-Advisor is experienced in the time consuming tasks required when working with them. Elder-Advisor’s fee is a small predetermined percentage of the gross Estate.

Independent Contractor status
Elder-Advisor is a consultant hired as an Independent Contractor.

Additional expenses
Elder-Advisor’s fees are independent from any and all fees accrued by other services. All costs are to be borne by the Client - legal, financial, medical, daily living, transportation, et cetera. Elder-Advisor accepts no commissions or referral fees from any of the services you may hire during our relationship. Elder-Advisor is your advocate working in your best interests and must remain impartial from any outside vendors. The client is responsible for any charges from all vendors.
